Hi, I’m Cheung Yan Yu(張恩瑜). You can also call me “Octopus”! In Cantonese, if you say “Cheung Yan Yu” quickly, it sounds quite similar to “zoeng jyu” (章魚), which means octopus. So somehow, my name accidentally gave me this little ocean-inspired nickname.
I am a sociology undergraduate at Peking University (expected graduation: 2029).
I am broadly interested in sociology, history, literature, and technology, and I enjoy exploring how people, ideas, and institutions shape one another. Growing up in Hong Kong deeply shaped my perspective on identity, culture, and the ways different social worlds connect. While I am still discovering new questions, my current interests center around social capital, education, technology, and organizations.
It may be too early for me to to settle on a specific academic focus, so this site is where I document my journey.
